Scratched Disc? Fix it With Pledge.
I was reading a random article about disc media earlier today and discovered that Pledge, the popular furniture polish, can be used to make unreadable discs readable again in some cases.
Apparently, Pledge has a light wax in it that can fill in the scratches on your disc. Basically, you just spray a bit on the CD or DVD that you’re trying to repair and then buff it out with a cloth. It’s not guaranteed to work but if your disc is already fucked over, then why not give it a try?
Pirates! Yarr! (Real Ones, Even!)
There’s been a lot of media coverage in recent weeks concerning pirates and their attacks on ships off the coasts of several African countries. The pirates have been especially brazen near Somalia, where piracy has become a global concern. ICC Commercial Crime Services has a cool Google map on their site showing all of the piracy and armed robbery incidents reported to the IMB Piracy Reporting Center so far in 2008.
You can also look back at maps for 2007 and 2006. Interesting stuff!
Two Points for Kissing?
I don’t even know what to say, here. This is just weird.
Meteor Over Edmonton, Canada
This is a quick video clip taken by a police dash cam in Edmonton, Canada. I’m sure that Mr. Maroon will appreciate the awesomeness of what’s captured.
Viewzi
I’m a big fan of visual search engines. I’ve never liked the fact that Google can’t give you at least a preview of the site that you’re about to click into. I find this annoying mostly because of the insane amount of spyware, malware, and virii out there on the Internet these days.
That’s where Viewzi apparently comes in. Although I’ve only used the site a few times so far and it can be a bit slow depending on what you’re searching for and which search option you’re using, it’s still a pretty amazing bit of search engine technology. It’s hard to explain exactly what Viewzi does simply because it presents you with several options for searching. Give it a try and you’ll see what I mean.
