Why I Threw the Shoe

Remember Muntazer al-Zaidi, the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoe at George W. Bush at that press conference last year? Well, he’s back in the limelight with an article that he wrote for The Guardian titled, “Why I Threw The Shoe“. It’s a good read.

The ironic part of all this is that he would never have been able to write an article like that in the old Iraq. The question is was it all worth it, and what gives us the right to force “freedom” on any group of people?

Idealistic, delusional pscyho. He is the reason why journalists will not be trusted as professionals at official media events. He has made difficult the job of journalism on behalf of all others in his profession. What statement was he making, and to what audience when he threw the shoe? The west cares little for this type of act, and although we know of the meaning behind it, it has little effect. So his audience was therefore his middle eastern friends, who probobly already agreed with him anyway. A futile event.
