DJ Hero: Mr. Pink’s Review

I snagged a copy of DJ Hero from Target today for $120. We fired up the 360 as soon as we got home and proceeded to rip through the next two hours, working through the tutorial and the first five or six sets plus a few individual tracks.

Overall, I’m damn impressed. The turntable controller is well constructed, the game mechanics are solid, the music itself is fantastic (even the rap mash-ups are catchy) and the overall experience is right up there with Guitar Hero. I was particularly impressed by the fact that they managed to emulate the basic feel of real mixing while keeping the game somewhat pedestrian. There’s a definite challenge to be had at the higher difficulty settings, however. I struggled with medium at first but I feel like I’m getting it under control.

My only real problems with the game at this point are the fact that my right arm hurts like hell from all of the furious scratch movements and Grandmaster Flash is the most annoying son of a bitch in the world. Listening to his screechy voice during the tutorial was torture. I wanted to mute the volume at times.

On the whole, I’d say that this one is definitely worth the money. With all of the DLC that’s sure to come out for this over the next year or two, I’m sure that this game is going to develop a big following.
