I just finished my first run through the single player campaign in Modern Warfare 2 a few minutes ago. I would’ve finished it last night but Mr. Maroon and I burned up several hours picking up achievements in the Special Ops mode. (Sidenote: Although the main campaign has no co-op, the Special Ops mode more than makes up for it. There are 25 levels in total and some of them take quite a bit of time to complete.)
Overall, I was blown away by the level of polish and the depth of quality in the single player campaign. Infinity Ward certainly knows how to bring a Michael Bay level of, “Whoa,” to their games. Coupled with the fact that the developers really pushed political and social boundaries with their latest entry in the Call of Duty series, I’d say that this is one of the more memorable gaming experiences that I’ve ever had. I can’t speak to the multiplayer because I haven’t dug into it yet but if it offers even half as many weapon and environment options as the single player side of the game, then I think people will be playing this at least until the release of Modern Warfare 3.
My only real issue with Modern Warfare 2 is that, even on regular difficulty settings, the game is ridiculously hard at points. I had to resort to cheap tactics and prayer to get through a few parts – and I was playing through on “Hardened”. I was also more than a bit irritated by the fact that enemy melee attacks sometimes came out of absolutely nowhere. Lastly, the game is incredibly short. I finished the campaign in a mere 6.5 hours. However, given the quality of the experience, I don’t think that’s something that I should really complain about.

I played through a tad bit more last night. As always I make myself play on the hardest difficulty. And running down that street, while Russian’s shot at me from the houses, was like suicide over and over again.
That rooftop mission though, where Soap misses the catch, and you have to run like shit-fuck crazy, that was sweet.
Also, are those rumors a bunch of bull, Mr. Pink?
I don’t want to ruin it for anyone – let’s just say that they pulled out all of the stops on this one.
…-Turns his 360 on.-
I finished the campaign on the PC and absolutely loved it. The story is a little convoluted at times, and although it makes sense, it is very unlikely, but having said that, it still works. The action is unbelievable. If you played the first MW, just times the action by 10 and you’ll have an idea of what it is like. If you get a little confused about the story, just go to the games page on wikipedia. Someone wrote a short overview of what happens. Of course, dont go there until you have beat the game. Otherwise the story will be spoiled for you. All i will say is that the end is even more epic than the first game. I am a little PO’d about the lack of dedicated servers on PC, but oh well, maybe one day infinity ward will fix that. One side note: Graphically there is absolutly no comparison..the PC version is leaps and bounds better than the 360. I was over a friends house playing it on his 360, and it looked really good but it looked bland compared to the pc at full detail.
I’m too pissed at how they abandoned PC gamers to buy it. I also find the concept of gunning down civilians abhorrent at best, and refuse to give IW my money.
