World’s Greatest Dad

worlds_greatest_dadWe took a chance the other night on World’s Greatest Dad, the new “Bobcat” Goldthwait film starring the legendary Robin Williams. It got rave reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (85% average) and several people had recommended it to me.

I didn’t know what to expect heading into it but within the first ten minutes, I was hooked. The plot focuses on Williams as Lance Clayton, a struggling writer and high school English teacher. Lance’s son Kyle (a student at the school where he teaches) is a sex addicted douchebag of epic proportions who ends up dead as a result of an embarrassing accident. Instead of telling the truth about what happened, Lance covers up his son’s death by forging an eloquent suicide note and journal that touches the hearts and lives of the students and teachers who otherwise ignored Kyle completely.

If you like black comedy, then this is not a movie to miss. The dialogue is awkward, the jokes are morbid, and the story is uncomfortably believable.
