WTC, 2010, Mr. Pink, Etc.

It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone. It seems like 2009 blew right past me. I don’t even want to think about how many hours I spent posting updates, writing endless lines of PHP and CSS, and trying desperately to stay on top of emails. That number is probably in the high hundreds, to be honest.

Don’t get me wrong – it’s been fun. However, running What The Christ? and keeping the rest of my life in order has been a challenge, to say the least. The site’s core audience grew exponentially this year, forcing me to face administration issues that I never thought I would have to deal with when I unleashed this beast on the web 15 months ago. The site was so popular at one point that I almost had to switch service providers for fear of being charged a small fortune in bandwidth overages.

I don’t foresee that slowing down in 2010, either. Page views have doubled in the past two months alone and we have days where more than 15,000 unique visitors hit the site. We’ve been discussing switching to a fully dedicated server solution to handle the load increases.

Yes, 2010 is going to be a huge year for WTC.

…and that’s exactly why I’m going to step down as the owner and administrator sometime in January or February.

No, that’s not a joke. I’m calling it quits. Moving on. Riding into the sunset. The truth is that I never expected this website to last as long as it has and with everything that I have coming down the pipe in my personal life this year (a kid being one of them), I’m just not the right person to be in charge anymore. I started this website as a small, fun side project and it’s simply snowballed into more than I really have time to properly manage.

With that said, I think it’s only fair that I share my plan with you, the people who have made this site as popular as it is today. Rest assured that I’m not closing the site. My aim right now is to sell it to someone who wants to keep WTC alive and continue to foster its growth. There’s a lot of fun to be had and money to be made on a website as popular as this one. I refuse to simply shut the doors and dump all of my hard work. I already have a few leads on potential buyers but if you’re (seriously) interested in discussing purchasing the site, then please feel free to contact me. I’d be happy to share information about income, analytic data, and anything else related to the site that you may want to know as a potential buyer.

That’s about all for right now. You shouldn’t notice anything unusual leading up to my departure. Things may shake up a bit once I’m gone but my guess is that the new owner – whoever that turns out to be – will be just as dedicated to keeping you all coming back daily as I’ve been.

Feel free to tell me how much you love me or hate me in the comments. Ask questions, too. I’m sure that there are at least a few hanging out there.

What about Teh Winnar and The VIP? Will they still be up and running?

Other than that, many, many thanks for all the work you have put into the site. It has been my homepage for sometime now. But good luck with your future endeavors!

i always wonder what mr pink looks like

  3. Mr. Pink says:

Teh Winnar and VIP will go along with the rest of WTC. Everything remain the same. Nobody will lose their account. Updates will still be made (by whoever takes over).

  4. The Man says:

Awesome. Also, will all current contributors remain? Or is that completely up to them / the new owners. I just would like to know who is still sticking around.

Sucks you have to go. Being a busy businessman myself, I don’t have time to scour the internet for raunchy or green humor, and this website did the job for me.

Kudos sir. My only question is, what about that WTC porn? It’d be nice if you left the scene with a bang…. pun intended!

  6. Mr. Pink says:

The Man – I have no idea how that’s going to shake out, yet. I will definitely post updates as I get closer to “retirement”.

MylesL – That’s still going to happen before I bow out.

Are you going to leave and never look back or do you think you might want to contribute every now and then?

  8. Mr. Pink says:

Anonymous – I don’t plan on having anything to do with the site once I leave.

  9. Mr. Six says:

It will be a sad day when you eventually leave, Mr. Pink. I guess you’ll have to make the remaining months count then, yes?

But congratulations on a very successful site. It’s definitely a beauty. Make sure whoever you sell it too doesn’t cash out and fill it with ads, though.

As long as the site stays this way when you’re gone, I’ll be sure to stick around. Long live WTC.

Thanks for starting my favorite site. I only read two other sites on a regular basis. Going to miss your contributions to the site and hope that the new owner will be able to keep the site running with as much class and content as you have managed. Good luck with the kid and the rest of life.

  11. Mr. Pink says:

I appreciate the kind words. I’m sure that the site will continue to grow and thrive, even under new ownership.

  12. Mr. Bacon says:

Man it will truely be a sad day, when you leave… I stumbled across this site about 13 or 14 months ago and have been hitting it up on a daily basis to get my dose of laughter and cheer… Good luck to you Mr. Pink.

  13. Click says:

There goes our “Lifetime VIP access”

  14. Mr. Brown says:

I know that for me, I will continue to post updates as long as I can. Hopefully whoever the new owner is will still want me as a contributor.

  15. Mr. Pink says:

Click – Not at all true. I’m actually in talks with someone who is looking to do more with the site than we’re already doing in the way of content. VIP and everything else will live on. I won’t be stepping down until I’m sure that everything is stable and the new owner is ready to push forward.

  16. Mr. Pink says:

Brown – None of the authors will be leaving unless they want to. This is a change of ownership and nothing more. I’ll have an email out to the WTC team within a day or two explaining as much as I can about what’s going on at this point.

  17. MylesL says:

I understand that you don’t want to have anything to do with the website once you step down but…

I wish that you would at least contribute Out of Context once a month, heh. I’ve enjoyed reading those shorts out of everything on the site to be honest. Or at least until the new guy graces us with random banter of his own.

  18. Mr. Pink says:

    Myles – We’ll see. :)

Also, I’m not walking away from online ventures entirely. I have several projects that I’d like to spend at least a little bit of time on.

Very sorry to see you leave but I want to congratulate you on making such a popular site and, of coarse, on the new kid!! :)
