EA Drops LAN / Dedicated Server Play From C&C4

Destructoid is reporting that EA has dropped both LAN and dedicated server support from the upcoming Command & Conquer 4. The game’s lead designer, Sam Bass, says that it’s necessary because all of your progress – both single player and multiplayer – is reported back to a central server. Of course, this also means that you have to be connected to the Internet at all times when playing the game. That includes single player.

While it’s cool to be able to pull up your profile from any computer, I think it’s bullshit that they’re dropping one of the features (LAN play) that made real-time strategy games popular in the first place.
