Check out this lengthy article on the Seattle Times website. It’s about how the FBI is apparently using fake profiles on social media sites to eavesdrop on persons of interest. It’s just a bit disturbing, if you ask me.
I’ll let this early excerpt speak for itself.
U.S. law enforcement agents are following the rest of the Internet world into popular social-networking services, going undercover with false online profiles to communicate with suspects and gather private information, according to an internal Justice Department document that offers a tantalizing glimpse of issues related to privacy and crime-fighting.
This seems like a legal gray area to me. I understand that their intent is to catch criminals… but where do you draw the line?





How is that the least bit creepy? If you’re posting information about yourself on the Internet, everyone *on Earth*, including the FBI, is going to see it. It would be stupid for them to not use these websites for investigation.
