Sony to Discontinue 3.5″ Disks

Sony plans to discontinue sales of the classic 1.44MB 3.5″ disk in Japan in 2011, according to this Examiner report. The decision marks the beginning of the end for a media type that otherwise spanned three decades.

I stopped using floppies somewhere around 2001 but I think I might still have a Windows 98 boot disk or two lying around somewhere.

-_- I thought they’d stopped production years ago.

Seriously, someone still buys floppy disks?

I still have a box of 10, still sealed. I do computer repair on the side and you never know what someone is gonna bring you or what crazy ass solution will be needed to finish.

I remember working at an ISP 5 years ago, and having someone request instructions to get setup on Windows 3.1, with Trumpet Winsock. People use crazy things still.
