Hugh Hefner Saves the Hollywood Sign
Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner has donated the remaining $900,000 needed by The Trust for Public Land conservation group to protect the land surrounding the famous Hollywood sign from being developed.
There are details in this Yahoo! News article, if you’re interested. (No bunnies, sadly.)
Split/Second Demo: Now Available!
A playable demo of Disney Interactive Studios’ upcoming racer Split/Second is now available on Xbox Live. The demo gives you full run of an airport where air traffic control towers and causeways come crashing down around (and on) you as you bolt for the finish line. The full game is due out on May 18.
If this one is half as good as Disney’s PURE, then I’m sold.

The Road
We finally got around to watching The Road this past weekend. I wasn’t expecting much heading into it, given Viggo Mortensen’s horrendous performances in just about everything that he’s done since The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I’m happy to report, however, that I was pleasantly surprised. He played his character well.
Too well, in fact.
The Road is a depressing film. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic world where the only survivors rape, murder, and cannibalize each other to survive. Mortensen plays a nameless father to a young, naive son. The film follows their seemingly hopeless trek to the southern coast, where they hope to find relief and refuge from the rapidly decaying and increasingly dangerous environment in which most of the movie takes place. It falls very much in line with The Book of Eli in terms of style but the story was something of absolute desperation.
I was particularly impressed by Robert Duvall’s cameo. I had no idea it was him until he spoke for the first time. I was also thoroughly impressed by Charlize Theron’s part in Mortensen’s pre-apocalypse flashbacks scattered throughout the movie. (Theron was his wife.)
My only real complaint about the movie was the lack of depth in the young boy’s character. I can’t put a finger on it but something was definitely missing. Otherwise, The Road was a fantastic movie – if a bit depressing – and is absolutely worth seeing if you haven’t, already.

Red Faction: Made For TV Movie Coming to SyFy, Could Turn Into Full TV Series
It turns out that the Red Faction movie THQ mentioned a few weeks ago is actually a made for TV film. Although that might sound like a bit of a bummer, it’s actually being produced by the SyFy channel and could be adapted into a full blown television series. That, of course, would be awesome.
The Ooks of Hazzard – KIDS (MGMT Cover)
It’s MGMT’s hit song Kids… on Ukuleles. This is awesome!

iPhone 4G Shit Gets Serious: Police Break Into Gizmodo Editor Jason Chen’s House, Confiscate Computers and Documents
Police broke into the home of Gizmodo editor Jason Chen to seize control of several computers and documents today. Chen was out to dinner with his wife when they broke in. He came home midway through their search. Chen and Gizmodo are calling shenanigans, saying that the police broke California’s journalist shield law. However, Business Insider reports the warrant was “ambiguous” and that the police may have some legal wiggle room.
Sounds to me like Chen and the Giz crew are in some serious shit over this whole debacle.
