Sony to Discontinue 3.5″ Disks
Sony plans to discontinue sales of the classic 1.44MB 3.5″ disk in Japan in 2011, according to this Examiner report. The decision marks the beginning of the end for a media type that otherwise spanned three decades.
I stopped using floppies somewhere around 2001 but I think I might still have a Windows 98 boot disk or two lying around somewhere.

Form Constant
From the clip description:
Form Constant is a collaboration between dancer/choreographer Hope Goldman and her partner, visual artist/programmer Andrew Moffat. It was performed live in March 2010 in the Studio Dance 1 Concert at the Krannert Center the Performing Arts as Goldman’s Master’s thesis show.
To perform the real-time tracking and effects, the piece uses infrared lighting and a custom-modded, $40 webcam along with custom software running on the GPU.
The choreography was influenced by the ideas of fluid dynamics and the energetic quality of the imagery.
Music by Ben Frost.
I’m personally a huge fan of the music. I love distorted, glitchy sounds like this.

Windows XP Running On the Apple iPad
Dave Soble, CEO of Evolve Technologies, got VMWare Connectwise running on his iPad. That enabled him to remotely connect to a system with Windows XP running on it.
In other words, Soble can run Flash apps on his iPad. Maybe there’s hope, after all!

Gizmodo In Hot Water Over iPhone 4G Leak
Gadget news blog Gizmodo may face serious legal blow-back for purchasing a “lost” iPhone 4G from an unnamed buyer last week, reports the New York Times. The district attorney in San Mateo County, California is currently considering whether to pursue felony charges against the blog and the individual who sold them the next generation iPhone prototype, which Apple claims was stolen.
Gizmodo likely raked in tens of thousands of dollars in advertising revenue from the massive spike in hits to their site last week after they published photos of and details about the new device. Brian Lam, the site’s editor, says that they have since returned the phone and that they did not know that it was stolen.
That’s complete bullshit, of course. They’ve been milking this for all it’s worth. For once, I hope that Steve Jobs behaves like he normally does and decides to wipe them from the face of the planet for being filthy thieves.

A Florida man in his mid forties was arrested recently for closing one nostril with his finger and blowing bloody snot all over his girlfriend out of the other. Police said that the woman was “covered” in blood and mucus. The man had apparently been involved in a fight earlier that evening, which had left him with a bloody nose.
The man will appear in court on May 4 to face charges.

Alien Prequel In the Works
Ridley Scott is working on the fourth and final draft of a prequel to the legendary Alien film series starring Sigourney Weaver. Details are scarce right now but Scott says that the film will be set in 2085, roughly thirty years before Ripley, played by Weaver. It sounds like the movie will be done in 3D and could be in theaters as early as late 2011.
