BP Ousts Hayward, Installs American CEO

Amid outrage over the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the knuckleheads at BP have finally announced that Tony Hayward is stepping down as CEO of the company effective October 1st, 2010. The company has chosen a long-timeĀ American employee of the company, Robert Dudley, as his replacement.

Hayward walks away with almost $18 million from the company in severance.

CNN has the details.

What the hell does it even matter if the new CEO is American or not? You think he will get some burst of “fuck yeah patriotism” and make some drastic (and hence costly) changes that matter? How naive your country is.

This guy is still answerable to the BP Board of Directors and his number one responsibility is to the profits of the BP shareholders. That’s what a CEO does. Never forget that.

…of which the largest group (41%) are American…

Dan, i don’t think anyone thinks there will be any ‘fuck yeah patriotism”.

It was only highlighted because that was part of the title of the article and the sentiment of it was being conveyed through to here.

Don’t be so quick to look for American-patriotism to shoot down

Trying to pin down the actions of a company as a whole to one person, however much of a shithead they may be, is slightly nonsensical- the guy getting the boot was an ass to say the very least, but I’ll take an 18 mil boot anytime.
The question going forward and irregardless of who is in charge is not what do they do… what do WE do to put an end to this bull shit?
More useless legislation they’ll bribe their way around?
More idiotic news updates about said bribing?
Or get the fuck off the oil standard once and for all- because honest to God that is the ONLY answer. Let a terrorist target a fucking wind farm- who gives a shit?! You pick it up and build another. We are operating overseas, killing and torturing routinely to keep ourselves in a rapidly depleting resource because several old idiots refuse to change their business model. The USA is holding the keys to their future in their hands at this moment- the answer to our woeful manufacturing sector, our energy needs, our economy lumbering back to its feet are in our hands- it’s all there. They just kicked off the biggest wind power project in the US yesterday in Cali- THAT is the future and that is where we need to be pushing for more now- and I’ll step off my soapbox for now, thank you for allowing the rant
