Google Wave lived up to its name: it made a ripple across the web and that was the end of it. I’m really not sure what Google was thinking when they unveiled the platform. It was neither revolutionary nor was it particularly useful. You’d think that one of the largest and most successful companies in the world wouldn’t make such big mistakes.

On the contrary, I think it’s an amazingly revolutionary and useful collaboration tool, it was just marketed poorly. Google seemed to push it as more of a “social” thing than the “NetMeeting on steroids” killer app that it could have been. Nobody gets together to edit documents with their friends, that’s what businesses do.
Plus the general public are probably too stupid to take time out from FarmVille to try and understand version control, media integration or application APIs.
I’ve been collaborating in some freeware game development, and Wave’s been extremely useful in keeping everyone on the same page and keeping track of just how far along the development process is. I’m thinking a huge part of the problem is that most people have never even *heard* of Google Wave. Hell… I’m a pretty huge fan of Google, myself, and I’d never heard of it until about a month or two ago.
google…wave?
errr nope, l no hear of it…
