Markus “Notch” Persson must be the happiest indie game developer on the planet this week. After making his incredibly addictive sandbox title Minecraft free to play two weekends ago, Persson raked in more than $350,000 in sales last Wednesday alone. Not bad considering that the reason for the promotion was actually to apologize for technical issues with the game’s master server.

He isnt pumping out any updates now though, which i think is a pretty bad idea with the popularity surge hes getting.
I’m sure that he’s having enough trouble just figuring out what to do, next. There’s already so much to do in the game that I could go for months without needing an update.
Doubtful. There’s a very very long list of things he plans to add.
But that’s unimportant. Working minecarts, buckets, doors, redstone, and no more crashing on the ‘far’ setting of draw distance would be nice. But his need to sort out the company first is understandable. Damn him and his success
The game is insanely addictive, I’ve been torn between it and Civ V. It’ll be very interesting when he gets Survival Multiplayer running.
I agree its very addictive. I stayed up all night last night playing it and I am not much of a gamer. The multiplayer is really enjoyable but the single player I dont like. Its too technical and takes so damn long. Not to mention crafting stuff is not fun. Its too complicated in that department. Ide like to join a cool server where a holes dont grief you. Maybe I should try making my own server.
Notch has been pumping out weekly updates to an increasing fanbase until the point where the server is flat out crashing every time a new update comes out. He’s trying to get a business set up so that other people can focus on all the other elements of minecraft and he can work on the game itself. I wouldn’t begrudge him not spitting out updates every week for a little bit. I’m still amazed he was working at the rate he was before.
