Depth

First, we get Minecraft. Now, there’s word of a game called Depth that pits divers against sharks in team deathmatch style combat. As a diver, you seek treasure. As the shark, your only goal is to try to kill the divers.

Motorcyclist Wins Case Against Maryland State Police

Remember back in April when video surfaced of an insane plain clothes Maryland State Police officer jumping out of his car and pulling his gun on a motorcyclist? Remember how he arrested the guy for videotaping the stop? Yeah. He got served today.

It’s nice to see that there are still some sane judges out there.

Los Angeles Hits 113 Degrees

At 12:15PM today, September 27, 2010, the University of Southern California weather station measured the air temperature at 113 degrees, making it the hottest day in the city’s history. The previous high was 112, set on June 26, 1990.

RIM Announces BlackBerry PlayBook

RIM rolled out the rumored BlackBerry tablet today at their annual BlackBerry Developer Conference. It’s called the PlayBook.

As far as specs, the tablet features a 7″ multitouch display running at 1024×600, a Cortex A9 based dual core 1GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a pair of cameras – one in front and one in back. It will handle 1080p HD video playback and it comes with an HDMI port as well as a microUSB jack, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooh 2.1 connectivity.

The PlayBook runs on a custom operating system built by QNX, a software developer that RIM acquired not too long ago. No word yet on battery life or price but RIM says that the PlayBook will ship in 2011.

Chicago Fire Fans Pay Homage to Super Mario

Chicago Fire fans created an impressive tribute to Super Mario Bros. during a home game against the Seattle Sounders. The first lost, effectively bringing their season to a close, but their fans are awesome regardless.

Cursebird

There’s a new service called Cursebird that actively monitors the amount of swearing that takes place on Twitter. It doesn’t serve any useful purpose but it’s good for an occasional laugh – and it’s an interesting demonstration of the power of the Twitter API.

Iranian Nuclear Power Plant Under Attack

Iranian officials in Tehran have confirmed that a complex computer worm is wreaking havoc on the computer systems of the country’s first nuclear power plant just a few weeks before the facility was supposed to come online.

The worm, called Stuxnet, was discovered back in July by German security experts. It’s being called the most sophisticated and targeted piece of malicious software ever written.
