Shank: PC Review
I finally got a chance to play through the PC port of the side-scrolling death fest known as Shank yesterday. It unlocked earlier this week on Steam for $14.99, which is a bit steep considering that it will only take you a few hours to beat the game – and that’s including the time it takes to watch the (often hilarious) cut-scenes.
That aside, however, Shank is a pretty good game. The graphics are hands down the best that I’ve ever seen in a flat 2D game and the combat is intense. I played with an Xbox 360 controller designed for Windows. I had a few problems with the controls but overall they were solid and everything responded as expected.
Unfortunately, the story lacks any real depth and there’s no real incentive to go back and play through the game again once you’ve beaten it. Some of the levels felt a bit uninspired – but the blood and chaos more than make up for that. Still, I would suggest waiting for this one to go on sale before you buy. $14.99 is just too much to ask for so little gameplay.
The Warrior’s Way
I’ve never been a particularly big fan of the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon style of kung fu movies but this one looks interesting. And it has Kate Bosworth in it, so there’s that to look forward to as well.

Minecraft Biomes
Yes, I realize that this is my third post about Minecraft today. This, however, is big news. In the Halloween update this weekend, Notch is adding biomes to the game to add new levels of complexity to terrain, weather, and the general look of the game.

Idiot Developer Betrays Minecraft Community, Gets Owned
A nineteen year old self-proclaimed furry who goes by Doridian has found himself on the receiving end of an Internet ass-whooping after releasing a free server administration tool for Minecraft that turned out to be loaded with a back door that allowed him to remotely grant himself administrative access to any server running the mod.
In a nutshell, he messed with a guy who posted about the incident on the official Minecraft forums. That triggered an absolute shit storm on the /r/minecraft board on Reddit. A savvy user took it upon himself to track down the developer through a series of Google searches and by digging through various profiles and posts across several forums.
Within an hour, the developer’s personal information – including his home phone number – was posted to a Twitter account. I think you know what happened from there. (Hint: 4chan got wind of what happened.)
Unfortunately, MCAdmin (the mod in question) is by far the most user friendly tool of its kind. It’s going to be rough going for Minecraft server admins until someone takes initiative and builds a strong alternative.

Entire Police Force in Small Mexican Town Quits
All fourteen members of the police force in Los Ramones, Mexico, a rural town east of Monterrey, resigned after drug traffickers attacked their station. No one was hurt in the incident but several police vehicles were destroyed. Until new officers can be hired, state police and military officers will be patrolling the Los Ramones area.

Big Changes Coming to Minecraft
Markus “Notch” Persson, the man responsible for the indy gaming sensation known as Minecraft, revealed a lot of previously unknown details about his plans for the game in an interview with game design site Develop. Needless to say, it’s an interesting read.
He talked about everything from a capture the flag mode to monster towns and his plan to eventually make alchemy part of the game.
