I worked in corfu for 10 years as a DJ. Every summer we’d see a ‘floating island’ arrive. One year we were allowed onto the ship, it was the USS George Washington. The ‘littke’ boat was moared almost 2 miles off the harbour and as we approached it in the shuttle boat it literally took up my entire field of view. Ive never seen something that big in my life.
We had a tour and was told a few facts like…yes its true that there’s macdonalds on the ship and also it had a full on games arcade, not your crappy ones either, at the time these were the top end simu-arcade games.
They served 18,000 meals a day and could breaze through a force 10 hurricane like butter. We also went onto the main bridge! it was tiny, nothing like Under Siege lol. The spirit level showing the tilt of the ship was at half degree, the tour guide told us that if that ever hit 1.5-2 degrees – the ship would literally keel over! not sure if that was true but made us laugh anyhoo.
