CNN Reveals Rampant Reports of Misconduct Within the FBI

According to an exclusive report on CNN, the FBI reprimands or suspends up to 350 of its employees each year for misconduct and terminates an average of 30 annually.

While the report itself isn’t too alarming given the size of the agency, the reasons given for some of the discipilanary actions are a bit shocking. Examples include a supervisor caught masturbating to pornography in his office and an agent using FBI databases to keep tabs on strippers – a few of which he even had visit him in his office.

This certainly doesn’t look good for the Bureau.

Congressman Pushes for Warning Labels On Video Games

Joe Baca, a Democratic member of U.S. Congress from California, is pushing a new version of the Video Game Health Labeling Act that would force publishers to add an additional warning label to games rated Teen and above by the ESRB.

Here’s the wording that he’d like to see used:

“WARNING: Excessive exposure to violent video games and other violent media has been linked to aggressive behavior.”

…and here we go again with the same old debate. There comes a point where you’ve beaten a dead horse for so long that there isn’t anything left to swing at. I think we’re at that point.

Florida Teenager Admits to Dumping Sandbar Piano

A 16 year old in Florida has come forward to claim responsibility for dumping a charred grand piano on a sandbar in Biscayne Bay on the shores of Miami.

Nicholas Harrington told WPLG news that he, “…liked the idea of an anonymous piano out there, no explanation to it.”

Harrington decided to come forward after an amateur filmmaker named William Yeager – who has lied to the media in the past – tried to claim that he placed the piano as part of a marketing campaign for an upcoming project. Harrington provided video proof that he, in fact, was the culprit.

Jorge Pino of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told CNN that, “It would be highly unlikely that we would cite this young man for anything,” and that the agency, “Would probably write him a warning and make sure that he understands that that could be construed as littering, obviously. It’s not the right thing to do.”

Facebook Enables HTTPS Support

In their ongoing battle against hackers, Facebook has enabled support for the HTTPS protocol for users who wish to better protect themselves from potential WiFi hijackers.

This comes in the wake of an embarassing incident earlier this week in which the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, had his fan page breached by a hacker who used the opportunity to call on Facebook to change their focus and become a “social business”.

Egyptian Government Shuts Down the Internet

In response to massive riots and demands for President Hosni Mubarak to step down, the Egyptian government has taken the absolutely unprecedented measure of removing the entire country’s access to the Internet. No web browsing. No social media. Nothing.

A massive protest is planned in response, many times the size of the protests that caused the government to shut down the country’s access to the web in the first place.

And while the protesters have numbers on their side, police have already beaten and murdered several people. In other words, it’s a run of the mill Middle Eastern power struggle. This one’s just going to be that much harder to find mention of in the news.

PlayStation Games Coming to Android Phones

I neglected to mention this in yesterday’s post about the official press event for the PSP2 but Sony also announced the launch of a new mobile gaming platform for Android phones called the PlayStation Suite. In a rather conspicuous lead-up to the announcement of a PlayStation phone, they’re bringing a selection of “certified” PS1 classics to the platform.

Oh, and Wild Arms, Cool Boarders 2, and Syphon Filter are among the launch titles!
