You read that headline correctly – OMG, FYI, and LOL have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary. And with that, my last shred of respect for humanity dies.
Update: They also appear to have added <3.

The Oxford English Dictionary should be thought of as descriptive, not prescriptive. The editors of the OED seek to accurately document the language as it is really used. The dictionary makes no attempt to prescribe or suggest proper usage – that is outside the scope of the work. The appearance of these words in this dictionary means only one thing – that those words are used in our culture today. This is not a suggestion that they are correct or proper.
They should probably add “wut” and “ur” and “u” than, since those are used constantly.
Far more than <3 is.
I was happy to see they also added hentai, meep and muffin top, but all of that goodwill was destroyed when I got to the new entry for "wassup".
Tbh tho, sounds like an early april fool’s day prank.
I think that they are trying to stay current with the times and not allow this new “language” push them further behind.
