Google Randomly Deleting Google+ Accounts?

Google+ appears to be having some rather serious complications this weekend because of their community standards policy regarding real names. ZDNet has the details but the gist of things is that Google has been deleting accounts en masse with no clear reason as to why.

The MAUL Shotgun

What happens when an over-the-top Australian electric gun company teams up with Taser International? Bad things, that’s what. I’m going to let an excerpt from the MAUL shotgun’s official description speak for itself:

MAUL™ is a lightweight, modular, 12 gauge, 5 shot, semi automatic shotgun for both military and law enforcement users. It has been designed to deliver shotgun capabilities for non-lethal and lethal munitions. All this capability weighs in at only 1.8 lb making it one of the lightest semi-automatic, 12 gauge weapons ever developed for its purpose.

MAUL™ can fire 5 rounds as fast as the user can pull the trigger, and can be rapidly reloaded in one smooth movement by inserting another 5 round munition tube into the receiver.

The bit about non-lethal rounds? Yeah. That means it can pump out five Taser rounds in rapid succession. This isn’t going to end well for rioters and protestors.

Hugo Chávez Using Twitter to Govern Venezuela

Hugo Chávez, the raving lunatic otherwise known to the world as the president dictator of Venezuela, is currently undergoing treatment for an unknown form of cancer in Cuba. But that hasn’t stopped him from running his country – via Twitter.

Chavez has made several major political decisions via his account on the popular micro-blogging service in recent weeks. Surgeons removed a cancerous tumor from his body on June 20th. It’s unclear whether the 56 year old will survive at this point, however.

$114,500,000,000,000

Everyone knows that the United States is in debt up to its ears. But exactly how much does $114.5 trillion amount to? A lot more than it sounds like, honestly. And there’s now a website called WTF No Way that puts it into perspective through a clever series of visual aids.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – Leaked CG Footage

Someone got their hands on what appears to be a piece of a cut scene from Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. It’s one of the most visceral things I’ve ever seen, game-wise.

UPDATE: We have some clarification on the origins of this clip thanks to Zakath. See the comments on this post for the details.

Amy Winehouse Found Dead

In what amounts to the least surprising news of the year, singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment this morning. She was 27 years old.

Winehouse, whose albums have won dozens of awards over the past few years, fought a very public battle with drugs and alcohol addiction. She was a flamboyant and controversial – but brilliant – musician.

The cause of death is unclear at this point. However, it’s believed to have been a drug overdose. Winehouse was already dead by the time paramedics were dispatched.
