As the patent wars in the tech industry continue to heat up, Google just made a huge move: they announced plans to buy Motorola Mobility for a staggering $12.5 billion.
If the deal closes, it would give Google control over smart phones, tablet computers and TV set-top boxes that are already powered by its Android operating system. If it doesn’t close, Google has agreed to pay a whopping $2.5 billion to Motorola as a reverse breakup fee.
Wow. This is going to be one of the biggest mergers in tech history.
