Ron Paul

This comic is sad but true. Aside from his views on income tax, I completely agree with just about everything that comes out of this man’s mouth.

I find his views and on science in generally concerning. Especially coming from a doctor, someone who should know the difference between a scientific theory and a “theory”.

I find them concerning to the point that I find him to be a complete and utter kook.

    • jake_davenport says:

      what do you mean?

      • jake_davenport says:

also, he hasnt been a practicing doctor in like 30 years. He got his MD in 1961. while it isn’t an excuse, i cut older people some slack. they weren’t fortunate enough to be raised in the modern, science driven world. AND even though his stance on evolution is far too religious for me, being that he doesn’t believe, he at least said that he doesn’t think anyone knows with any certainty about our origin and that separation of church and state are a priority. he’s going to have to do alot more than that to lose my (atheist) vote.

        • Anthrobyte says:

Yeah, the 1960′s was the fucking stone age. I am so glad that the 21st century cleared up that little problem with all of this new science and modern stuff.

Scientific theory and the word theory as used by the general population?

In the general population the word theory generally means “a hunch”. Typically an average person will use the word “theory” in the way that a scientist will use the word “hypothesis”.

A scientific theory is actually very well supported by facts.

For example, Einstein’s theories of relativity are actually now very well supported by facts. For example, GPS satellites are moving so fast and so far out (relatively speaking) that their “clocks” are running slower than the clocks down on the surface of the earth, and they have to compensate for that to accurately calculate a receivers position on the surface of the planet.

        • Rehsab Thgir says:

By “average person,” would you by any chance mean Fox News watching shithead? Or perhaps fundamentalist Christian shithead? Another variety of shithead. perhaps?

    • thatreallysucksdude says:

      ie: evolution.

The guy doesn’t believe that evolution is a valid Theory. ie: it’s just a “theory”. Evolution isn’t just a hypothesis, it’s well supported by facts in a multitude of disciplines. Concerning, yes, absolutely, and critically.

No matter what your other political views, if you are so out of touch with the way the world actually works that you don’t believe in evolution, how can we trust that person to make rational, informed decisions?

Ron Paul is right in quite a few areas, but… ehh. Libertarianism is scary, dude.

    • Mr. Pink says:

No scarier than the future we’re otherwise facing if the GOP somehow manages to get its shit together and retake the White House…

      • Rehsab Thgir says:

The GOP is damn scary, yes. But libertarianism is damn near the bellwether for scary in American politics.

Waking up and finding that the GOP runs a branch of government is like being bitten by a potentially rabid dog: Scary, but there is a cure if you get treated right away.

Waking up and finding a libertarian in charge of anything other than dog catcher is like finding out that a zombie plague is rapidly spreading through the population: You’re just fucked.

      • Zakath says:

The GOP is truly frightening, since they are all trying to outdo each other and see who can go the farthest to the right.

But libertarianism… it’s farther right than the Tea Party in many ways. Not sure if you posted this story but did you hear about Peter Thiel of PayPal wanting to form his own little nation on an abandoned oil rig off the coast of California? He’s a libertarian and wants to form his own little libertarian paradise.

No government regulations or social programs, just the invisible hand of the free market to keep the country on track. NO REGULATIONS. That means no building safety codes, among other vital things that keep us safe and cut down on corporate corruption. Disaster on top of disaster.

His view on public finance is about the only somewhat sane thing about him. He’s racist, and an idiot on the science front, an idiot on reproductive rights, gay rights, etc…

Man, I really hope people under 50 show up and vote in 2012. We can’t depend on the Republicans to nominate a fossil (although a national hero) and a beauty pageant political retard from Alaska again.
