Twitter Now Censoring Tweets In Certain Countries

Twitter just announced changes to their system yesterday that allow them to hide your tweets from viewers in countries with differing interpretations of “freedom of expression”. I don’t even know what to say about this one except, “For fuck’s sake, guys. Really?”

Seriously. The irony. The fucking irony of it all.

It’s probably censor their own site or have their entire site censored, they could take a stand, but more tweeters is more tweeters.

always thought freedom wasnt something that could be interpreted away.

The way they are handling this is actually very clever.

If a tweet is censored, they will be putting a replacement tweet saying that a tweet was censored, for what reason, and which government or body requested the censorship. That last part especially is very important

This is actually a very good thing. In most cases, you would have no fucking clue if your posts are censored.

To be clear, I’m not supporting censorship. I am supporting how twitter is handling censorship.
