Software Updates
We’re updating our web publishing software this evening. We might need to take the server down a few times and you’re likely to notice some minor changes to the site.
We also completely overhauled the mobile version of the site today. It actually works, now. I apologize to those of you who weren’t able to use it over the past few months.
UPDATE (3/1): The install went about as smoothly as we could have expected. We’re now in the process of squashing a few bugs. Expect to see the day’s updates later this evening.
The Avengers – Trailer 2
A second (lengthy) trailer for The Avengers hit the web today.
Former id Software Artist Leaks Doom IV Media
A former id Software artist named Thao Le could face significant legal trouble for releasing this trove of Doom IV media. The download includes concept art, environment screenshots and music tracks from the game. Based on the content of the leak, it would appear that Doom IV is in fact a remake of Doom II: Hell On Earth.
Neither Bethesda nor id Software have commented on the authenticity of the files in the leak. Bethesda did, however, take a minute to squash yet another rumor that the project has been canceled. Still no word on when we can expect an official announcement, though.
Blizzard Announces Reduction of 600 Employees
Despite the continued success of all of its major franchises, Blizzard announced today that the company is reducing its global workforce by a total of 600 positions in a move that they say resulted from a “review of its business based on current organizational needs”.
While most of the reductions were made in departments unrelated to game development, this is still a huge shift for the company. Up until today, Blizzard employed a total of approximately 4,600 people, so this is by no means a small move.
Prometheus – Peter Weyland
The viral marketing campaign for Prometheus, the next film from Ridley Scott, has begun.
Lionhead Studios to Announce New Project at GDC 2012
Lionhead Studios, the team behind the Fable franchise, is expected to make some sort of announcement regarding a new project at the Game Developer’s Conference next week in San Francisco, California. The obvious path would be Fable IV but rumors are circulating that the company may have something else in store: an Unreal engine powered MMO.
I’m personally hoping to see a return to the world of Black & White.
