It’s official: Sony has acquired cloud gaming service Gaikai for a cool $380 million.

There’s still no official word on what Sony actually plans to do with the platform, however it’s been widely speculated that they plan to make PS1 and PS2 games available on PS3.

It’s also possible that Sony acquired the company in part to develop a cloud gaming platform for the next PlayStation console. Only time will tell.
