Scientists at CERN (home of the Large Hadron Collider) confirmed this morning that they have discovered a new subatomic particle – one of the basic building blocks of our universe – whose characteristics match those of the Higgs boson, also known as the God particle.

The Higgs boson has been the most sought-after particle in physics. If the CERN team has in fact found it, the discovery could help unlock some of the universe’s deepest secrets.

This is potentially the biggest scientific discovery of the century. Holy shit.
