Those of you who regularly use BitTorrent are probably already aware that Demonoid, one of the most popular trackers on the web, is dead. Again. But what you may not know is that it probably won’t be making another triumphant return. No, this time it’s really dead.
It started on July 25th with a DDoS. The attackers nuked the server, then redirected visitors to sites full of ads and malware a few days later. Then, the servers went dead again – because they were seized from Demonoid’s hosting provider ColoCall by police in Ukraine.
It turns out, however, that the site’s admins are located in Mexico. They were simply paying a Ukrainian hosting provider. They’re now the focus of a criminal investigation and their servers are gone. Unless they flee Mexico and they have a backup, it’s safe to assume they’re done.
