Microsoft announced yesterday through an entry on the official Skype blog that the company is “retiring” its MSN Messenger service on March 15th and forcing anyone who still uses it to switch to Skype instead. Contacts will automatically be migrated as part of the transition.

Microsoft acquired Skype for $8.5 million last October.
