It’s official. THQ is dead. All of the company’s major assets have been sold at auction. Below is the full breakdown of the properties sold – and more importantly, who bought them.
- Koch Media, which owns Dead Island developer Deep Silver, bought Saints Row and Red Faction dev Volition. It also acquired the rights to the Metro franchise.
- Ubisoft grabbed THQ Montreal and the South Park franchise.
- SEGA is the proud new owner of Relic and its Company of Heroes franchise.
- Crytek is now the owner of the Homefront franchise.
This is a sad day for THQ fans but some of these acquisitions are encouraging. SEGA will do great things with Relic and there’s a chance that the Red Faction franchise will make an open world comeback under Koch. Homefront under Crytek could also be interesting.
Kotaku did an excellent write-up on THQ’s history as a company.
