A fire that broke out in a crowded night club in Sao Paulo, Brazil killed 233 people last night. Authorities believe the blaze was caused by a pyrotechnic display that was apparently part of a live band’s performance. (Why were pyrotechnics used indoors?)

Hundreds of those who managed to escape have been hospitalized due to burns and smoke inhalation. Four arrests have been made including the club’s co-owners, a band member, and a promoter. Details are sketchy at this point as far as what charges they’re facing.

I can’t think of a worse way to die than by fire. Awful.
