Windows Through the Ages
Techtified put together a nice little look back at Microsoft Windows from version 1.0 all the way up through their latest edition, Windows 7. If you add them all up, there have been more than seven versions; 11, not counting Bob – NEVER count Bob. I still have nightmares… sorry, I digress.
Go check out From Windows 1.0 to Windows 7.

You Don’t Need Expensive HDMI Cables!
It’s always the same story – you’re out to buy an HDTV and the salespeople immediately try to tell you that to really get a good high definition picture, you need a ridiculously expensive HDMI cable or some other cable to connect your new television to your Blu-Ray player, HD Antenna (side note: build your own and save money) or cable box.
It’s not true!
HD signals, whether from over-the-air broadcast or other connected devices are digital. You either get a picture or you don’t. The HD Guru is an excellent source for more on this and other related topics including what deals are good and what to avoid this holiday season.

Carpal Tunnel Intefering With Your Self-Loving?
If so, RealTouch has a device and web service for you.
By combining a motorized masturbatory device with their video service, you get a simulation of the movements of your favorite porn stars, both female and male. They even have a few anime videos. They encode videos, which they host on their site, with movements for the RealTouch device so what you see the star do on the screen you feel on your man parts – oral, vaginal, anal, even handjobs
Read the review at Fleshbot. Head over to their website for prices.

Why Vaccinate When You Can Have a Swine Flu Party?
I used to like Glenn Beck when he was on Headline News. Now? I’m waiting for Fox to start a new channel “Fox Conspiracy Channel” based around him.

Another Tool for Your Anti-Virus Toolbox
With more and more Internet cooties out there these days, I’d say that more help is always a good thing. Usually, we’re told that you can only run one anti-virus application on your machine at a time as they don’t play well with each other. However, that’s not the case with Threatfire.
In both its free and paid versions, Threatfire is a more tool you can use to help keep your computer safe while on the World Wild Web that won’t interfere with most other traditional anti-virus or security suite programs. It has conflicted with AVG in the past but those problems are reportedly worked out with the current version.
Read more about Threatfire in this PC World article.

Firefox 3.6 – Try (Use) Before You Buy (Install)
For all of you Mozilla Firefox lovers (25% are now surfing via the Fox!) out there, you can now try the latest version, Firefox 3.6 Beta.
It features, among other things, better JavaScript performance and better integration with new Windows 7 features. You can read more about the specifics at DownloadSquad here and here.
That’s not all, though! You can download the portable version and use that without installing it over your current version of Firefox. There are also instructions on how to transfer your links and add-ons, although some probably won’t work, into the correct folder so you can use Firefox 3.6 Portable just like you use your current version. One thing to note is that when you run Firefox 3.6 Portable for the first time, you should go to “Help” and “Check For Updates…”
Beta 2 is now available but I could only find the link to download Beta 1 in the Portable format.

Clash of the Titans (Remake)
Alright, I realize that I just recently ranted about Hollywood remakes. However, I sense potential in this remake of Clash of the Titans. It gave me a 300 kind of vibe. If nothing else, it has some serious eye candy.

Microsoft Security Essentials
Last month, Microsoft released Microsoft Security Essentials, marking their entry into the computer security market. It’s free to use, which is surprising on its own. What’s more surprising, however, is how well MSE scores against similar security products – including those that aren’t free.
According to this article on Ars Technica, it ranks right up there with Symantec and Kaspersky and it’s better than ESET, McAfee, AVG, and Avast. I’m using MSE currently on my Windows 7 install and I put it on my roommate’s Windows XP based Dell. Both installs were simple and quick and I have read that scan times are comparable to other security products as well.
So, if you’re looking for a different way to protect your system, especially one you do not have to pay for, give Microsoft Security Essentials a try.
The Gathering Storm (The Wheel of Time 12)
I finally finished the latest novel in the long-running The Wheel of Time series. At 784 pages, it’s one of the longer volumes. After Robert Jordan‘s death, the series’ publisher and his family decided (with his blessing) to allow the series to be finished by another writer. The writer they chose for the job was Brandon Sanderson. Working from significant written materials and recordings made by Jordan, who knew he was dying, Sanderson continued writing and along with the publisher decided to write two more novels after this one.
I enjoyed The Gathering Storm immensely. Perhaps my enjoyment may have been colored by the joy of finally getting the next book in the series but as I read, I kept thinking about how the characters, dialogue, and plot points felt exactly the same as the previous novels.
All was not perfect, of course. Some differences were obvious, a few chapters read a bit odd and there are still two more books before the series is “finished”. Robert Jordan wanted to write two more prequels and had considered writing a series taking place after the Last Battle, which concentrated on Mat and Tuon. That being said, the storyline advanced quite a bit in this latest entry, some plot points from previous books were wrapped up nicely and overall I felt that progress was made.
If you are a fan of The Wheel of Time books, I believe that you will enjoy this one.
