Unauthorized Android App Store Coming Soon
Koushik Dutta, a member of the team that brought us CyanogenMod and the creator of ClockworkMod, just announced that he is in the process of creating an app store that will be home to apps that have been banned from Google’s official Android Market.
The new store will include customs ROMs, retro gaming emulators pulled due to copyright complaints, unofficial tethering apps, Visual Voicemail apps, one-click rooting apps, and all of the other goodies that Google says they can’t feature in their store.

The guys at team Greenpois0n have finally done it: an untethered jailbreak that works for both the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. No more restrictions! Woo! It’s called Absinthe and it works on the iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 and the iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1
Hackers Steal Symantec Source Code
Symantec confirmed today that a group known as the Lords of Dharmaraja ripped source code for two of the company’s flagship products from a military intelligence agency in India.
The group claims in a Pastebin that they discovered source belonging to a dozen companies which have signed agreements with the Indian TANCS programme and CBI.
Symantec’s competitors must be absolutely giddy right about now.

Anonymous Hacks Top Security Firm Stratfor
Anonymous spread a little bit of Christmas joy yesterday by announcing that they managed to breach Stratfor, one of the top security firms in the United States. Apparently, they’d been storing a lot of critical data in the clear. Whoops?
According to the group’s official Twitter feed, they managed to snag a small fortune worth of Stratfor client data – including government agencies and major corporations such as the U.S. Defense Department, Army, Air Force, law enforcement agencies, top security contractors and technology firms like Apple and Microsoft.
Kindle Fire Loaded With CyanogenMod Rom
Kindle Fire owner and XDA forum member JackpotClavin claims that he has successfully loaded the CM7 rom to his tablet. He hasn’t shared his method yet and there are a couple of big technical issues but the fact alone that he was able to do it is huge news.
Columbia Universities Discover Critical Flaw In HP Printers
A team of researchers at Columbia University claim to have discovered a critical security flaw in HP printers that’s virtually impossible to fix and it could pose a physical threat to the safety of people and property under the right circumstances.
In short, it’s theoretically possible to hack into a vulnerable device and overload it to the point that it catches fire. Likely? No. But it’s still scary as hell to think that this is even possible.

id Software Releases Doom III Source Code
As has become a tradition with the company’s old game engines, id Software just published the source code for Doom III under the GPL3 license. Developers can now download it, learn from it, manipulate it, and most importantly use it to create entire new games and mods.
