55 Free Sound FX Websites
Hongkiat is a blog for tech users, designers, and bloggers. They have a great article running right now that features links to 55 free sources of high quality sound effects. You might want to give this a look if you do any music or film production or if you need to spice up a slideshow presentation.
I’ve used several of the sites linked in this article in the past. There are some truly great resources out there if you know where to look.
James Figurine – Apologies
I’m a huge James Figurine fan. This is his most famous track. The video was done back in 2006. Check it out if you like downbeat music.
James Zabiela: Best Scratch Artist Alive
I don’t care what anyone in the scratch community says – James Zabiela has no challengers when it comes to the title of Scratch God.
Check the video for proof.
Justice: A Cross The Universe (Live)
I just got a copy of the insane new album A Cross The Universe by French electronic duo Justice. If you like Daft Punk and/or Fatboy Slim, then you need to give this album a shot. It’s a great set. Their tracks are original, imaginative, and they really bring funk and rock together in cool ways.
Justice themselves, however, are a bit odd. They have a strange fixation on the Christian cross. They even perform next to a giant glowing cross during their concerts.
There’s apparently a DVD of the whole concert floating around out there. I haven’t seen it, yet, but I’m sure it’s cool to see.
Play Auditorium
Auditorium is a game – a very cool, musical game of sorts. I don’t really know how to explain it. You direct the flow of energy to create music. You can check it out for yourself here.
The Chemical Brothers – Dig Your Own Hole
I was listening to some old CDs today and came across a classic that I hadn’t heard in a while: Dig Your Own Hole, the second album from the famed British electronic duo The Chemical Brothers.
Originally released in 1997, Dig Your Own Hole is regarded as a masterpiece of modern “big beat” music. It incorporates the sounds of techno, house, rock, a splash of funk, and Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons (The Chemical Brothers themselves) even managed to get Noel Gallagher of Oasis to stay sober and sane long enough to do some vocal work for the album.
If you like loud, pumping, bass-heavy music, then you should give this one a listen. It numbers amongst my all time favorite albums.
Daft Pulp
I don’t normally post high-resolution wallpapers but this one is among the funniest I’ve ever seen. If you don’t understand what’s going on, here, then you need to give Daft Punk a listen and you need to see the movie Pulp Fiction. Then, you’ll understand.
And then you’ll laugh.
And then you’ll agree that this is awesome.
Battles – Tonto
You’re either going to love it or you’re going to hate it. Personally, I think Battles is a fucking brilliant group of extremely talented musicians. This is one of my favorite tracks of theirs – Tonto.
