Israel Sends Ground Forces Into Gaza

Israel has send ground forces into Gaza. Hamas has responded by telling Israeli forces that Gaza will be “[their] cemetary”. Israel claims that they’ve sent in ground forces to minimize civilian casualties, as Hamas is their primary target. I don’t buy that, personally. I think that the air strikes will continue.

Twins Born Across Two Years

A mother in Rochester, Michigan gave birth to twins on New Years Eve and New Years Day, meaning that her sons have birthdays in December of 2008 and January of 2009. They were born 26 minutes apart, shortly before and shortly after midnight. That’s a hell of a way to ring in the new year.

You can read more about it in the Chicago Tribune article here.

I wonder if this is the first time that this has happened?

Windows 7 Beta: Leaked

If you haven’t already heard, the Windows 7 beta was leaked a bit early and has been widely distributed across dozens of major BitTorrent sites over the past couple of days. Steve Ballmer was expected to announce the immediate availability of the beta on January 7 at the CES conference. I doubt that the leak will change those plans. Microsoft is used to this kind of thing, as it’s happened with their other products several times in the past.

I’m not going to lie and say that I don’t already have a copy. I grabbed it the moment it became available. I’ve yet to install and test it but I will be sure to post about my first impressions as soon as I get some time to tinker with it.

Dane Cook’s Brother Robs Him Blind

TMZ is reporting that the brother of Dane Cook, a comedian whose fame far outweighs his ability to actually say anything funny, has essentially been robbing him blind. For years. Including a $3,000,000 forged check.

Wow. It couldn’t have happened to a bigger douche. Maybe there is some justice left in the world!

Digital Warfare: Israel vs. Palestine

Take a look at this brief but extremely interesting Wired article detailing the relevance of blogging and YouTube to the war currently raging between Israel and Hamas in Palestine.

It’s a bit jarring when you realize that the Internet has become so powerful that governments around the world can use it as a tool to drum up support for military campaigns.

The future is now.

Russian Professor: End of United States is Coming

For the past ten years, a prominent Russian professor named Igor Panarin has been saying that the United States will tear itself apart both economically and morally by the year 2010. Up until recently, his claims were largely ignored. In light of recent events, however, the Russian state media has begun paying a lot of attention to what Mr. Panarin has to say.

While he may sound crazy at first, it’s worth noting that this guy is an accredited professor, a respected expert on U.S.-Russian relations, and he happens to be a former member of the KGB. There’s a full write-up on him in this Wall Street Journal article.

I’m not saying that I believe any of this. I do think it’s interesting, though.

White House: Israeli Violence is Hamas’ Fault

The White House has placed blame for the current violence between Israel and Palestine on Hamas, the group that controls Gaza. Nevermind the fact that the Israeli response to Hamas attacks has been as disproportionate as Russia’s response to Georgia’s actions last summer. What happened to the old “an eye for an eye” policy? It seems more like “your whole fucking family, all of your friends, both of your dogs, and your car for an eye” these days.

The fact that we’re allies with Israel has always bothered me. While I don’t have a problem with Israeli people, I do have a big problem with their weasely-ass government and the pansy tactics that their military employs.

Giant Snowglobe Recall

Hallmark has apparently issued a recall via the Consumer Product Safety Commission on a total of 7,000 Jumbo Snowman Snow Globes. Why, you ask? Because they can act as giant magnifying glasses that set shit in your house on fire!

This has to be one of the strangest product recalls that I’ve ever seen.

You can check out the full report here.
