TSA Stops Passenger With Loaded Gun
Stop the presses! The Transportation Security Administration actually managed to catch someone trying to carry something dangerous through a checkpoint this past weekend!
Michael Menlo Smith, 60, was trying to make the trip from Baltimore, Maryland to Tampa, Florida. He never set foot on a plane, though. Instead, he was arrested for the loaded Glock 17 he had in his carry-on. A bullet was chambered and Smith was carrying extra magazines.
Author of “Where The Wild Things Are” Dead at 83
Maurice Sendak, the beloved children’s book author (Where The Wild Things Are among others), died in a Connecticut hospital early this morning due to complications created by a recent stroke. He was 83 years old.
Sendak, who rose to fame with the publication of Where The Wild Things Are in 1963, explored the human psyche through his picture books. He also worked on operas, films, and television programs throughout his career and he even had a hand in helping Spike Jonze adapt his most famous book to film in 2009.
This is truly a massive loss for the world of children’s literature. Rest in peace, Mr. Sendak.
“Eggless” Chicken Born In Sri Lanka
A hen in Sri Lanka gave birth to an “eggless” chicken according to a report from the BBC. It appears that the hen held the egg in for the full 21 day incubation period, allowing the chick to grow and hatch as it normally would – except without actually leaving the hen’s body.
The chick is fully formed and healthy, however the mother died after the chick was “born”.
Utah Woman Discovers Cocaine In Tampons
Cindy Davidson, 39, bought a box of Kotex brand tampons from a store in Salt Lake City, Utah. What she got, however, turned out to be tampons laced with cocaine.
Salt Lake City police are now trying to determine whether this is an isolated incident or part of some sort of vaginal drug smuggling scheme. (Oh, the things I get to write on this website…)
ABC News has more of the details on the bizarre story.

Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson Lied About His Education
When Yahoo hired Scott Thompson to replace Carol Bartz in January, Thompson claimed to hold degrees in accounting and computer science from Stonehill College in Boston.
It turns out that he lied. Thompson got a degree in accounting and only accounting. In fact, the college didn’t even have a computer science degree at the time he was a student there.
This is obviously an issue for Yahoo. First, they had a crazy CEO. Now, they have a liar.
Facebook Files IPO
Facebook filed its IPO with the Securities and Exchange Commission today, announcing its intent to sell 337,000,000 shares at between $28 and $35 apiece in what will become the biggest stock offering from an Internet company since Google went public in 2004.
The $11.8 billion IPO puts the valuation of the company at somewhere between $77 and $96 billion. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, 27, stands to gain as much as $17.6 billion in the IPO, which would make him richer than Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
Treasure Hunter Claims to Have Located Bin Laden’s Body
A professional treasure hunter from California named Bill Warren claims to know the exact location where the U.S. Navy dumped Osama Bin Laden’s body last year – and he’s trying to raise $200,000 in funding to recover it. Why? Because he’s insane. Clearly.
Warren told a reporter for Spanish newspaper El Mundo that the feds dumped the body in a heavily weighted bag roughly 200 miles due west of the Indian city of Surat. Of course, even if he’s right there’s almost no chance that he’s going to find any evidence at this point.
