Animation of Al Gore Harassing a Masseuse
By now, you’ve probably heard that former vice president Al Gore is accused of harassing a masseuse at his hotel room in 2006. The question, however, is whether you’ve seen the animation that Taiwanese news network NMA created to recreate the allegations.
G20 Protests In Toronto
“Heavily armed” riot police in Toronto are using tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds of G20 protesters, who have already torched four squad cars.
CTV has more photos, video, and details about the protests. More than 150 arrests have already been made. Police expect to make many more before the end of the summit.
It’s Raining Oil In Louisiana
This is seriously one of the scariest things that I have ever seen on the Internet. Louisiana simply can’t catch a break. It’s literally raining oil.
The Green Zone
We finally got around to watching The Green Zone the other night. I meant to catch it in theaters but never got around to it for some reason.
Honestly, I’m glad that we ended up waiting. It was rather disappointing as far as Matt Damon’s action movies go.
For starters, the movie was entirely too long considering the simplicity of the main plot arc. The dialogue was solid but the pace… just wasn’t. The story essentially revolves around Matt Damon trying to unravel the truth behind why the United States is at war with Iraq. It’s peppered with CIA agents and crooked Pentagon officials, as you’d expect from a movie like this.
In other words, it was yet another war movie trying to stand out from the crowd by taking a more politically pointed approach than most films. Unfortunately, the “point” wasn’t anything that most people don’t already know – that the U.S. attacked Iraq without just cause.
We honestly ended up watching the movie in two parts because we got a late start the first night and simply weren’t engaged enough to finish. It’s worth checking out if you don’t have anything else to watch, as it wasn’t necessarily bad. It just wasn’t anything special.
Let’s hope that Damon signs on for the new Bourne movie that was just announced so that he might be able to redeem himself.
WikiLeaks to Release Afghani Massacre Video
Julian Assange, head of the famous whistleblower site WikiLeaks, is apparently preparing to release video of a “massacre” in Afghanistan in which as many as 140 civilians were killed. According to reports, most of the casualties were children and teenagers.
Assange, who is wanted by the U.S. government in connection with the leaking of the Collateral Murder video that made waves last month, has been in hiding for the past few days due to suspicions that he is in possession of as many as 260,000 classified diplomatic wire transcripts.
The Daily Beast has more details in this article.
American “Bin Laden Hunter” Held In Pakistan
A 52 year old man named Gary Brooks Faulkner is being held by authorities in Pakistan. He was detained in the mountains of the Chitral district north of Peshawar carrying a dagger, pistol, sword, night vision gear, and “Christian literature”.
Faulkner told police that he was hunting Osama Bin Laden, who is believed to be hiding in the area. Faulkner is from California. He arrived as a tourist in Chitral last week. He was assigned a security escort but vanished on Monday evening.
During questioning, Faulkner was directly quoted as saying, “God is with me, and I am confident I will be successful in killing [Bin Laden].”
$1 Trillion Worth of Minerals Found in Afghanistan
According to this New York Times article, U.S. officials have discovered close to $1 trillion worth of untapped mineral deposits in war-torn Afghanistan. Here’s a direct excerpt that sums the situation up nicely.
The previously unknown deposits — including huge veins of iron, copper, cobalt, gold and critical industrial metals like lithium — are so big and include so many minerals that are essential to modern industry that Afghanistan could eventually be transformed into one of the most important mining centers in the world, the United States officials believe.
“Previously unknown”, my ass. I’m no conspiracy theorist but I’m guessing that the U.S. government has known about this for years – since long before the invasion took place post-9/11. You don’t just up and discover that much of a resource out of the blue.
BP Security Guard vs. Reporter
It’s videos like these that make me wish I lived closer to the scene of the spill. I’d love to have a chat about public versus private property with one of these rent-a-cops.
