Mozilla Releases Firefox 10
Yes, it’s time for yet another new Firefox release. (I must have missed the news when the last release happened. Go figure.) Mozilla can now thumb its nose at Microsoft a bit more, for version 10 has arrived – bringing with it support for full screen APIs in addition to taking a new and altogether better approach to extensions management.
Seriously, Mozilla. This new release cycle has been kind of ridiculous. Just because you fix a bug or add a new feature, it doesn’t mean you have to call it a completely new build.
Airplane Tail Grab
People will go to some pretty ridiculous lengths to catch a good video clip.
Matthew’s Day Off
It turns out that this epic teaser was really just a lead-up to a Honda CR-V commercial that’s set to air during the Super Bowl. God damn it. Those bastards.
Aside from the fact that I’m crushed over the sad truth that there won’t be a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off sequel, I’m honestly curious as to why it’s suddenly the norm to debut Super Bowl commercials before the Super Bowl actually airs on television.
Space Invaders IRL
Computer graphics artist Tom Carruthers is the man who rendered this absolutely terrifying interpretation of what a Space Invader might look like if it were a real creature.
You can check out more of his work right here.
Wii U Twice the Power of Xbox 360
Hot on the heels of a rumor that the Xbox 720 should be seven times the power of the Xbox 360, a source told Develop recently that the Wii U is only twice the power of the current-gen Microsoft console. That’s a lot less than what some studios expected from Nintendo.
But then again, this is Nintendo we’re talking about. They’re always behind the curve.
Twitter Now Censoring Tweets In Certain Countries
Twitter just announced changes to their system yesterday that allow them to hide your tweets from viewers in countries with differing interpretations of “freedom of expression”. I don’t even know what to say about this one except, “For fuck’s sake, guys. Really?”
Seriously. The irony. The fucking irony of it all.
Microsoft Testing Kinect Sensors In Laptops
The Daily is reporting that Microsoft is currently testing Kinect components in Windows 8 based laptops. It’s a logical progression from the recently unveiled PC version of the popular motion controller that could have huge implications for… well… looking like a goofy bastard while you flail your hands around in front of the screen at your local coffee shop.
Racial Slur Slipped Into Minecraft
The newest version of Minecraft greets players with the sentence “You are a NIGGER,” if they switch their language to Afrikaans, the language spoken in South Africa and Namibia.
It appears to have been the doing of a user who was among many people who worked on language translations of the popular game. Mojang has already issued an apology and they are in the process of removing the offending text from the game’s language files.
Lockout
What do you get when you throw Escape From L.A. into space? You get this awesomeness.
