No, really. That’s what she says.
Grandma Says “Fuck Your War”
Darren Emerson Bogota GU36
I just finished listening to the new two-disc Global Underground mix compilation from Darren Emerson of Underworld fame. This was his third mix in the series and this time he chose to take it in a new direction. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall flow and track selection for this compilation, especially considering that he really didn’t include tracks from a lot of well known artists in this mix. He created a strong, pulsing vibe throughout and really gave it his signature sound.
I can’t really say how I feel about this mix in comparison to his last two. It definitely isn’t as good, at least in my opinion, as Nick Warren’s stellar mix from late last year. It is, however, a solid entry in the series and a great mix on the whole. I’m sure that I’ll listen to it at least a few more times over the next month or two.
If you like house, then this one is definitely worth picking up.
Real Life Portal Gun
If you haven’t played the Valve Software masterpiece that is Portal, then this Flickr photo stream won’t be very impressive to you. If you have, then I’m guessing that you’re going to crap your pants. The level of detail in this real life mock-up of the gun from the game is absolutely stellar.
According to emilyskeith, the user who posted the photos, her boyfriend built the gun for her to use as part of an Aperture Science costume. I’m guessing that it was either for a convention or for this past Halloween. Either way, it’s a perfect tribute to the game.
Coraline
Check out the trailer for Coraline. It looks a lot like Tim Burton’s classic The Nightmare Before Christmas because the guy behind it is Henry Selick, who directed that film. I’m definitely keeping an eye on both this and 9. It’s projects like these that give me high hopes for the future of animated films.
Spy Coins
Have you ever heard of the old hollow nickels that spies used to carry during World War II? No?
Me either. Apparently, however, these guys have. Their website is atrocious but they do know the history behind hollow nickels like the one to the left and – more importantly – they sell them!
