I think that this more or less sums up one of the big reasons for our country’s current financial situation.
A 79 year old man from Connecticut named Donald Peters died back on November 1 from a heart attack while working in his yard. He’d purchased a couple of lottery tickets earlier in the day from a 7-11. His wife, 78 year old Charlotte Peters, understandably had more on her mind than checking the tickets to see if he’d won.
She finally got around to it this past Friday and found that she was a winner – for $10,000,000. You can read more in this article on Yahoo! News.
We watched Smart People this morning. It stars Dennis Quaid and Ellen Page, the great young Canadian actress known best for her role as Juno, and is supported by a surprisingly good performance by former Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker. (She plays Quaid’s love interest.)
The movie follows the life of Lawrence Wetherhold, played by Quaid, as he and his two kids fumble through their lives as extremely intelligent but socially awkward “smart people”. I think that the real charm of the story is that it’s believable. Quaid does an exceptional job of portraying a university professor and his adopted brother Chuck, played by Thomas Haden Church, really shines as the “idiot savant”.
If you’re looking for a relaxed, interesting, feel-good movie, then this is one that you should really add to your list of films to see. It didn’t do well in theaters due to poor advertising but it really is a great movie.
I’ve had three ASUS brand motherboards die on me in the past four years. Number three died just this morning. It’s coincidental and ironic, as I just placed an order for new hardware yesterday – including a brand new model from ASUS. Granted, I haven’t been buying their high end models and I do demand more from my hardware than the average user.
However, the fact remains that ASUS quality control has really slipped as the company has increased in size and their focus has shifted more toward the laptop and netbook market.
Fortunately, I still have the old 1.3GHz Celeron based machine from which I am currently posting. I’m actually kind of looking forward to using this old box for a few days while I wait for my new parts to arrive. The video card in this tower is an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, the most famous AGP video card ever released.
Sega is working on a seriously twisted title for the Nintendo Wii called MadWorld. Check out this latest footage from this past summer’s E3.
If you’ve never seen Rob Sheridan’s work before, then you need to check out his sketchblog. I don’t know where he draws the inspiration for some of his work from but he’s an extremely talented artist.
I will warn you, however, that some of his work is a bit disturbing.
Luke is a socially awkward pot dealer who has few friends, a screwed up family life, and a lack of confidence with women. He trades pot with a shrink named Squires (Ben Kingsley) for sessions and ends up falling in love with Squires’ step-daughter.
I won’t spoil all of the details for you – just go watch it! There are even cameos by Mary-Kate Olsen, who is a surprisingly good actress, and Method Man, who plays Luke’s slightly eccentric dealer.
