Call of Duty: Black Ops to Feature “Offline Multiplayer”

Mark Lamia, CEO of Treyarch, says that Call of Duty: Black Ops will feature an AI based “offline multiplayer” mode designed to teach players how to handle the rigors of online play.

The offline mode will feature its own dedicated progression and achievement system and will cater to newbies and veterans alike.

In other words, they’ve added bot support to the game. Holy shit. This is amazing. I wonder if they’re going to add “aimbot” and “wall hack” options?

Rock, Paper, Shotgun sat down for an interview with Brian Mitsoda, head of indy game studio Doublebear Productions, to talk about a new zombie themed RPG the company is working on called Dead State. It’s a long, interesting read. I’m interested to see how the game turns out. The concept sounds solid on paper.

Former Amazon Exec Becomes Digg CEO

Digg announced yesterday that Amazon executive Matt Williams is taking over as the new CEO of the ailing social news site. The company has recently come under fire for its v4 release, which has utterly failed to resolve the ongoing problems of spam and manipulation by a small group of “power users”.

I’d wager that a year from now, Digg will be nothing more than a shell of its former self. It’s a sad situation, really, considering how great the site used to be. Unfortunately, they seem to have developed a bad case of Yahoo! syndrome – they’re suffering from arrogant, inept leadership and a user base that isn’t mature enough to sustain itself. The worst part is that nothing Williams does as the new top dog is going to change that.

Bullets Through Water

Photographer Alexander Augusteijn took this mesmerizing high-speed shot of a bullet tearing through a droplet of water. I have no idea how one would go about setting up shots like this but he has more equally mind boggling shots in a gallery on his website.

Pulp Fiction vs. Chef Boyardee

This wins my vote for best mash-up of the year. The bit where he cuts the girl off made me laugh so hard, I almost choked.
