Trion Worlds Fires Approximately 100 Employees
Trion Worlds, the MMO developer behind titles such as Rift and Defiance, has just let go of around 100 employees. Some sources are saying 70% of the employee base was fired.
The downsizing is due to both poor performance of Rift’s first expansion Storm Legon and the abysmal launch of Defiance, however it’s believed that most layoffs impact Defiance.
In related news, Rift is going free-to-play as of June 12th.

EA Drops Support For Nintendo Wii U
EA has confirmed that it’s dropping support for the ailing Wii U. The publisher has confirmed that it doesn’t have any new games in development for Nintendo’s newest console.
This is very bad news for Nintendo. Even with a strong internal lineup, they’re going to have a really hard time surviving without the generally strong sales numbers EA generates.
