Need For Speed: Most Wanted 2 Confirmed

Remember when someone at British retailer GAME leaked word back in January that Need For Speed 13 would be released this year? Well, it turns out that’s true – and we were able to confirm through a reliable source that the game is in fact Most Wanted 2. We’ve also got it on good authority that Criterion Games is building the game on the Hot Pursuit engine.

Even without confirmation from our source, however, there’s a mountain of evidence.

South African retailer BT Games actually published (but later took down) a pre-order page for both Most Wanted 2 and Dead Space 3 last month. This morning, EA confirmed during an earnings call that a new Need For Speed is under development and will be released at the end of Q3 2012. They neglected to provide a name for the title, however.

Regardless, we’re here to tell you that it is in fact a Most Wanted sequel.

EA Announces Classic SSX DLC

Much to the enjoyment of the franchise’s older fans, EA announced plans today to add some of the “classics” back to SSX via a pair of DLC releases. One pack adds a total of nine new drops and new music while the other is a character pack full of classic SSX riders.

I’ve logged something like 40 hours playing this game over the past two weeks and I’m not even starting to get tired of it. You really need to pick it up. It’s available for as low as $35.

Crysis 3 Confirmed

Following a leak on Origin last week, EA confirmed today that Crysis 3 is in development and due out in the spring of 2013. The third entry in the franchise will be a “sandbox” shooter built on the latest iteration of Crytek’s incredible looking CryEngine.

You’ll once again take on the role of Prophet, returning to New York City in the year 2047 to take revenge on the Cell Corporation. And yes, you do get an awesome looking bow.

Eurogamer has more details – and the first screenshots from the game.

Need For Speed: The Movie

According to a report from Variety, representatives from EA are shopping around a script for a film based on the long-running Need For Speed franchise. No details are available at this point but this isn’t surprising given the more cinematic direction of The Run.

The Run was the eighteenth entry in the series, by the way.

EA Accidentally Confirms Crysis 3

Someone at EA is probably in wee bit of trouble this afternoon after accidentally publishing a listing and logo for Crysis 3 on Origin for several minutes this morning. Rumors surfaced in February that the game is under development but Crytek had yet to make anything official.

They might as well come out and confirm the game’s existence, now.

EA Wins “Worst Company In the World” Award

Electronic Arts was officially granted the title of “Worst Company In the World” today by The Consumerist based on a poll of its readers. EA beat out Bank of America in the final round of voting, 64.03% to 35.97%. The company immediately issued the following statement.

We’re sure that British Petroleum, AIG, Philip Morris, and Halliburton are all relieved they weren’t nominated this year.

We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.

I must admit, they have a point. They are, after all, merely a video game publisher.

BioWare GM Responds to Criticism of Mass Effect 3 Ending

By now, you’ve either heard about or experienced one of the endings of Mass Effect 3. A lot of people don’t feel like they live up to the hype that EA and BioWare created. In fact, the gaming community has been extremely vocal about the whole thing.

But that may soon change. BioWare General Manager Ray Muzyka just weighed in on all of the controversy via the company’s official blog. His position boils down to this excerpt:

“This is an issue we care about deeply, and we will respond to it in a fair and timely way. We’re already working hard to do that.”

In other words, BioWare may in fact be looking to issue some kind of patch or free DLC.
