Bodycount
Remember a few weeks back when I posted about the secret game that Stuart Black, the main developer behind the Xbox shooter BLACK from Criterion Games, was working on with the people at Codemasters? Well, that game now has a title: Bodycount. Not much is known about the game at this point other than the fact that it’s completely over the top. It was featured on the cover of this month’s copy of Xbox 360 Magazine.
Portal 2
In a move that many have predicted for over a week, now, Valve announced that Portal 2 is coming this holiday season. Here’s the full blurb on the sequel.
Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007′s Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.
Nevermind the fact that Valve’s owed us Half-Life 2: Episode 3 for a couple of years, now.
Crysis 2 Screenshots
These are the first two screenshots that EA has released for Crysis 2. It looks like New York. This could be interesting – very interesting.
Human Benchmark: How Fast Can You Click?
The Human Benchmark has a really interesting click speed test that measures how quickly you respond to a color changing box. With apologies to folks who happen to be color blind, it’s a great way to train your reflexes for first person shooters. I averaged 172ms on 25 clicks. My fastest was 116ms.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – Campaign Impressions
I’ve logged about three hours on the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 single player campaign as of this posting. I’m at a good stopping point, so I’m taking the time to share my initial thoughts about the game.
I pre-ordered Bad Company 2 a few months back on Steam based largely on the incredible looking gameplay trailers that EA released. The Steam download process was surprisingly easy with this release – a welcome departure from my previous experiences with downloading games on release day. I held a steady 1MB+/sec download rate.
I dove into the single player campaign as soon as I got the game installed. I scrambled through the first few levels and I’m damn impressed so far. The controls are tight and responsive, the plot and dialogue are surprisingly engrossing, and the animation is absolutely fluid. The game is heavy on in-game cutscenes, which may be an issue for some people, but they move quickly and really help to flesh out the story. It actually reminds me a lot of Crysis. I think it has a lot to do with the environments, which are lush and beautiful.
The graphics are on par with Modern Warfare 2, surpassing them in some regards and only barely falling short in others. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that DICE has effectively redefined themselves with this release. Bad Company 2 just doesn’t look like a Battlefield game – which is a good thing if you ask me.
My only real complaint at this point is a pretty big one: the enemy AI sucks. Seriously, it feels like a static shooting gallery at times. Of course, that’s a forgivable offense considering that the game was really designed as a multiplayer title. The fact that DICE even took the time to design such a cinematic campaign is simply a bonus.

BLACK Creator Working On a New Shooter
Stuart Black, the designer responsible for Criterion’s awesome Xbox shooter BLACK, is now working at Codemasters according to this report on Kotaku. Although he’s not working on a sequel, he is working on a new shooter of some kind. I know a lot of people didn’t like it but I’m a huge fan of BLACK. In fact, it’s the only classic Xbox game that I re-purchased as a digital download on my Xbox 360.
Here’s hoping that his new game is just as epic as his last.
Valve: 28,000,000,000 Zombies Dead and Counting
Valve is reporting that Left 4 Dead 2 players have slain a bit more than twenty-eight billion zombies since the game launched just a few short months ago. That’s a lot of undead.
