The Kinect Effect
This is an awesome ad from Microsoft. Nevermind the fact that they initially tried to squash the use of Kinect controllers for anything but interacting with mildly retarded cartoon animals.
Gears of War 3 – Horde Command Pack Launch Trailer
The Horde Command Pack for Gears of War 3 is now available for download. I grabbed it last night. It’s 800 MS Points – and worth every penny.
Epic Releasing Free Gears of War 3 Map Pack
As a “thank you” to fans of the franchise, Epic is planning to release a Gears of War 3 map pack called the Versus Booster Pack absolutely free of charge.
The map names are: Swamp, Clocktower, Azura, Rustlung, and Blood Drive and should be available for download through Xbox Live on Thanksgiving Day.
Halo: CE Anniversary – Launch Trailer
The HD remake of the most popular first-person shooter of all time is almost here.
GoldenEye 007: Reloaded – Launch Trailer
Now available on PSN and XBLA. Hell, yeah.
Battlefield 3 – First Impressions
I made no bones at all a few weeks back about the fact that I justĀ wasn’t impressed by the Battlefield 3 multiplayer beta. I stand by that opinion. The beta was a piece of junk.
The full game, however. That’s another story entirely.
I’m only about an hour into the campaign so far but I think it’s safe to say that Modern Warfare 3 simply doesn’t have the chops to hold its own. In fact, given that we’re coming up on the end of the year I’m going to go ahead and say this might be the best game of 2011. (Arkham City is a close second and Gears of War 3 is coming up third, in my view.)
What makes it worthy of such praise, you ask? One word: everything. From the graphics and sound, which are jaw dropping at their worst, to the intense firefights and the fantastic camera work, this game’s campaign is a masterpiece. I’ve played most of the big military shooters of the past ten years. This one just shot my old favorite – Call of Duty 4 – in the face.
Minecraft 360 Playable at MineCon Next Month
Mojang has confirmed that a playable version of the upcoming Kinect-enhanced Xbox 360 port of Minecraft will be playable at the first annual MineCon next month.
This might just be reason enough for me to invest in a Kinect adapter.
Next Xbox Console Coming In 2013?
Once again, there’s a rumor circulating that Microsoft plans to release a new Xbox console. Develop has the details but it basically comes down to the fact that Lionhead is working on a Fable title that’s been dubbed Fable Next internally. According to the source who sparked the rumor, the new game can’t possibly run on current-gen consoles.
Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone
Konami is releasing a new Zombie Apocalypse game, dubbed Never Die Alone, for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 later this month. The downloadable title will arrive on PSN and XBLA on the 25th and 26th, respectively.
The game will follow the same general concept as Dead Nation, allowing players to wander an island while using squad-based tactics to eliminate undead hordes.
Batman: Arkham City – First Impressions
If you’re a gamer and you haven’t been living under a rock for the past few days, you probably already know that half of the civilized world is playing Batman: Arkham City.
And there’s a reason for that: it’s a fucking awesome game.
Rocksteady essentially took everything that made Arkham Asylum good – the plot, the dialogue, the controls, and all of the awesome gadgets – and translated it to an open world.
I don’t really know what else to say. It’s as close to perfect as one could ask for. If you need me, I’ll be playing.
