Red Faction: Armageddon Demo Coming May 3rd
Xbox 360 and PS3 owners get their first taste of Red Faction: Armageddon on May 3rd according to the official Red Faction website.
Sadly, THQ and Volition are opting to go the Activision route and spit in the faces of those who made their brands famous by not releasing a PC demo at the same time.
Buy Alice: Madness Returns, Get Alice Free!
EA and American McGee are giving console gamers some amazing incentive to buy a copy of Alice: Madness Returns when it lands on June 14th: they’re including an online code that grants you access to a copy of a brand new port of the original American McGee’s Alice.
Players who don’t have a code (i.e. those who buy the game used) will have the option to buy the original for $9.99 via the in-game menu. Sadly, they aren’t going to give the gamers who doesn’t buy the sequel the chance to buy the original.
Alien Jihad
A new arcade style shooter called Alien Jihad comes to PC, iOS, Android and several consoles later this year and it’s already sparking a lot of controversy.
Considering that it uses the word “jihad” in the title and reportedly features achievements like Greedy Banker, Infidel, Foreclosure King, Bailout Champion, Day of Rage, and Tea Party, however, that shouldn’t come as a big surprise.
Nintendo Launching New Console at E3 2011, Reportedly More Powerful Than Both PS3 and Xbox 360
Nintendo is unveiling their next console at E3 2011 in June and, according to the scoop from Game Informer, it’s going to be more powerful than both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Nintendo hasn’t commented, yet, but several sources are reporting that the news is true.
Call of Duty: Black Ops – Escalation
The next Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack is coming to the Xbox 360 on May 3rd. (No release dates for the PS3 or PC versions, yet, as usual.)
It’s called Escalation and includes four new multiplayer maps – Hotel, Convoy, Zoo, and Stockpile – as well as one additional map for the Zombies mode.
Dungeon Siege III Release Delayed
If you’ve been looking forward to the arrival of Dungeon Siege III, you’re unfortunately going to have to wait just a bit longer. Square Enix just announced that the game’s release is being bumped from May 31st to June 21st. It’s due out on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Why? Because the game simply isn’t ready, according to Square Enix CEO Mike Fischer.
Red Faction: Armageddon – Kara’s Trailer
Kara has big boobies. Reason number 372 to buy Red Faction: Armageddon.
505 Games Teams With Rebellion For Sniper Elite V2
Remember Sniper Elite, the ambitious World War II shooter that Rebellion released back in 2005? Well, they’re working on a sequel – with help from the team at 505 Games, makers of Supremacy MMA. It’s due out for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012.
Here’s what Ian Howe, Managing Director of 505 Games, had to say about the project:
“We guarantee that the sequel will be the most authentic WW2 sniping experience ever – not just in terms of weapon ballistics, but also in delivering the heart-pulsing tension of those do or die moments where one shot really does matter.”
I always thought the original Sniper Elite was a good game that simply lacked polish. This is definitely going to be a game to keep an eye out for.
Need For Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed – Mr. Pink’s Review
I had extremely high expectations for Need For Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed ahead of its release both because of the massive amount of hype and because the franchise is on fire following Hot Pursuit, which is still dominating my time on the Xbox 360 four months after release.
Granted, Hot Pursuit was made by Criterion, the legends behind the Burnout series. The Shift series, on the other hand, is a product of a much smaller dedicated developer known as Slightly Mad Studios. They did a solid job with the first game – but did they improve with the sequel?
In a word, yes. Everything in Shift 2 Unleashed improves on the original. It doesn’t have the flash and polish of Hot Pursuit and the steering is just a tad too loose for my tastes but it more than makes up for those shortcomings by delivering one of the most visceral and realistic driving experiences this side of Forza. The engine recordings and camera angles in this game are a full-on sensory assault. If you have a decent sound system, this game is almost worth buying for the audio alone.
Hot Pursuit fans will also find that the developers did a great job integrating Autolog. It’s a lot of fun fighting with your Xbox Live friends for the top position in each event.
Long story short, Shift Unleashed 2 is worth buying. Be warned, however, that release cycles for NFS games seems to be ramping up in recent years and there’s a good chance the price on this one will drop fast. If you’re still playing Hot Pursuit, I’d wait a month or so just to save a few dollars on the purchase.
